“Modern life brings us in touch with traumas, great and small, that leave us reacting in ways we would never expect or know how to deal with. EMDR and other adjunctive therapies can help us to better cope and to strengthen our inner resources. In this way, we can move forward with focus, purpose and humanity."

Dr. Karen Alter-Reid is a psychotherapist in private practice and trains mental health clinicians. She is committed to getting the word out that post-traumatic symptoms are treatable, and a normal reaction to abnormal situations. She devotes part of her time to trauma treatment and training in disaster areas. She developed the Big Oak Psychotherapy & Training Institute which provides EMDR Basic Training and other psychotherapy-related workshops on current topics in the field.
